Sleep Apnea and it’s link to Dentistry
Sleep Apnea occurs when breathing repeatedly stops during sleeping hours. Sleep apnea must be diagnosed by a sleep pathologist and can range from mild to severe.
New patients at Richmond West Dental receive a comprehensive exam that includes an assessment and evaluation of their Sleep Apnea risk. Our dentist will evaluate your neck and back of your throat, as well as overall signs of you having difficulty breathing at night.

Often, sleep apnea goes undiagnosed for years and has serious systemic effects, including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.
In the event that sleep apnea is suspected, we will refer you to your family doctor for a sleep apnea test, which is usually covered by OHIP. The treatment options for sleep apnea range from simple night-time oral appliances to CPAP machines and even surgery.
In case you snore loudly, feel tired, fatigued, sleepy or wake up several times at night unexpectedly, please call our office to schedule a consultation appointment.
