What are dental implants – Should I get an implant?

We all know that dental implants are used to replace a broken or lost tooth, but did you know anything else about dental implants? What are the dental implants made of? Does it hurt?

A dental implant is a surgical procedure that is used to replace your naturally missing or broken tooth. It is made of titanium and porcelain and unlike dentures, It stays in place.  You treat it exactly the same as you would with a normal tooth.  How you would brush and floss your natural teeth is how you would brush and floss a dental implant!

Importance of Dental Implants:

There are many reasons why it’s important to use dental implants to replace lost teeth or fix your smile:

  1. Confidence: having a full set of teeth can fix your smile and make you more confident.
  2. Preserve your bone: with an implant in place – your jaw bone naturally does not shrink, hence preserving the level of bone
  3. Eat like normal: You can eat and chew like you would with your natural teeth
  4. Speech: Replacing your natural teeth can help you maintain the way you talk

Does a dental implant hurt?

In one word, No!  Dental implants do not hurt and typically the process is pain free!  During the entire process – patients are numbed with local anesthetic and patients feel no pain during the procedure.  A few days after the procedure there may be some tenderness or soreness but it can be alleviated with regular or extra strength Advil!
